Scrap Metal Fires: What is causing them and how may we learn more?

Waterspirit’s Public Policy & Justice Organizer has been observing the concerns of overburdened communities for the past few years and in her new role on the NJ Environmental Justice Advisory Council. What does this have to do with water? Naturally these fires are of utmost concern during a drought watch.

Many residents have expressed interest in learning more about scrap metal sites and related environmental, health, and safety regulations administered by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Next week, join virtual and in-person opportunities to learn how they operate, where to find them, what causes them to catch fire, and what DEP rules and regulations they must follow.

Speak directly with DEP Commissioner Shawn LaTourette, Director of the Office of Environmental Justice Kandyce Perry, and other DEP staff to have your questions answered.
