Join Waterspirit’s community in celebrating Plastic Free July! Take the pledge and explore weekly tips about how to reduce and eliminate plastic where you call home. We have shared a still-relevant video created by Waterspirit’s past Program Manager, Abbey Hume here.
Here in New Jersey, we have a lot to celebrate and act upon. We at Waterspirit have been amplifying opportunities to reduce and eliminate plastic waste for many years. Educational efforts are working. Thanks in part to many of our volunteers for inspiring passage of supportive municipal resolutions, New Jersey recently passed a “Skip the Stuff” bill into law that goes into effect this August. Pat yourself on the back and do a dance if you helped bring a resolution to your municipal leaders urging them to skip the stuff. Well done, NJ advocates! Your voice is your superpower.
What does this law do? It requires that customers request single use items versus businesses incurring the cost of unnecessary items that end up polluting our dwellings and watersheds. NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has dedicated a website to teaching the public about how this will work: “Get Past Plastic” Please share it widely with those you know and love who reside in New Jersey.
Waterspirit is actively working to reduce and eliminate plastic in our sacred waterways. To learn more or become a volunteer, join us!
