Join Waterspirit for Plastic Free July

Waterspirit’s community is guided by the sacredness of water and the call to live in deep harmony with sacred Earth. Each year, our campaign to reject and reduce fossil fuel based plastic is a sacred act of love—for oceans, for future generations and for all beings that depend on clean, safe, living waters.

Plastic pollution is poisoning our waters, devastating marine life and contributing heavily to the climate crisis. As protectors of sacred Earth, we are called to examine our daily choices and embrace practices that align with the well-being of our common home.

Start Where You Are!
Our relationship with water begins in the daily routine—what we carry, what we use, what we discard. As people of spirit and conscience, we are invited into a deeper mindfulness. How may we shift our habits to better reflect our values?

Here are a few practices to help you begin:
Carry reusable bags: New Jersey banned plastic bags for a reason. Reuse is not just practical; it is a spiritual commitment to less waste and more care.

Bring a reusable water bottle: Skip the single-use plastic. Recycled stainless steel options, including Waterspirit bottles, are great choices. (Please let us know if you’d like one!)

Make one small change this week: Reflect on the ripple effect this choice might have; one change--made with intention—can inspire others to follow.

Collective Action
We believe that collective action is spiritual action. Plastic pollution is not an individual problem--it is systemic. That is why we are asking you to join us in advocating for structural change. At the United Nations level, the talks to draft an International Plastics Treaty will resume in early August. We hope that this treaty will take ambitious, enforceable action to stop unnecessary plastic production at the source, without giving credence to false recycling “solutions”. Waterspirit’s colleagues will be at the talks in Geneva, and we will share updates as those talks develop.

You can take action with your community! Support policies like Extended Producer Responsibility and Skip the Stuff which hold corporations accountable for the waste they create and reduce unnecessary waste in restaurants and retail settings. How might you do this? Encourage your town, county or congregation to pass a resolution in support of EPR and Skip the Stuff. Waterspirit’s team is happy to help you through the process. Collective voices have the power to shift laws and consciousness. Join us in taking action today! Email water@waterspirit.org to learn more.
