Our sacred Ocean is under threat. As a result of warming ocean waters, we are witnessing intensifying hurricanes and storms that harm marine creatures and our beloved communities, especially our coastal neighbors. Deep sea mining companies are proposing new projects with unknown consequences on marine life and the surrounding communities. Earlier this month the Administration signed proclamations rolling back the remaining three national marine monuments in the Pacific - Papahānaumokuākea, the Islands Unit of the Mariana Trench Marine National Monument, and the Rose Atoll Marine National Monument (American Samoa). We grieve these actions and call for a better path forward.
June is Ocean Month. Join us in listening to voices from communities affected by these threats and learn why a healthy ocean is vital to the well being of our planet. We will identify current threats to ocean life and discover why taking action matters.
This webinar is co-sponsored by Creation Justice Ministries, Mennonite Central Committee U.S., Interfaith Working Group on Extractives Industries, Faith In the Ocean, Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns, Missionary Society of the Columbans, National Religious Partnership for the Environment, NGO Mining Working Group.
