Equinox and Solstice Celebrations

Intentionally connecting with the cycles of nature is an eco-spiritual practice that helps us regulate our inner lives and strengthen our connection with the planet. On the equinoxes and solstices, Waterspirit marks the turning of the seasons with prayer, contemplation, and music. This long-standing, signature program is inclusive of all faith traditions, inviting attendees into deeper connection with the meaning of the season. Hundreds of people have celebrated the seasons with Waterspirit since these celebrations began.

Summer Solstice Celebration

Thursday, June 20, 7 pm ET

Join Waterspirit on the summer solstice, as we celebrate the light, energy and warmth of the sun. Through music & movement, poetry & ritual, we honor the earth, sun & water working in harmony to bring us the gifts of summer.

After the ceremony, the celebration continues for our in-person guests as we enjoy refreshments and fellowship in the Oak Grove outside the Waterspirit HQ if weather allows or upstairs in Wilson Hall. We hope to see you there.

*We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please email water@waterspirit.org 732-923-9788

Waterspirit’s Summer Solstice Celebration 2023

Wednesday June 21, 2023 7pm ET

Through music, movement & ritual, we honor the earth, sun & water working in harmony to bring us the gifts of summer. On this, the summer solstice, we celebrate the light, energy and warmth of the sun. The sun is on the ocean; the fire is on the water. The warmth and flow make life. The sun touches our skin and changes us, making the vitamins we need for health. We are structured water reaching for the sun. The sun helps the plants produce the food and oxygen we need to live. We pray with gratitude for water that is life and for the light, energy, warmth and food we receive so abundantly from the generous, self-giving sun.

We know we will enjoy the smooth sounds of Joseph Frame’s beautiful guitar so much, that we would like you to watch a video of the celebration on our YouTube channel.

Our Spring Equinox Celebration was a great success. We are ready for the buds, blossoms and butterflies associated with the season. Did you get a chance to attend the celebration? Whether or not you celebrated that evening, you can still watch the recording of the ceremony on our YouTube channel.

Join us to celebrate and reflect on the freshness and excitement of the rebirth of nature. Enjoy this evening of reflection and ritual in celebration of Spring, a season of new vitality and energy for Mother Earth and the human spirit. During this time of prayer and gratitude we pray also that we may transform and awaken to new energy and life within ourselves.

DETAILS

The winter solstice is the longest night, when we are tipped as far away from the sun as we will get this year. The official start to the cold winter season is marked by the sun seeming to stand still in the sky. We huddle up against the cold and seek the comfort of our hearth fires and heart-fires. Great Mother Earth, bless us with true understanding of the cycles of your seasons!

For this event, you may wish to have a candle and matches on hand for a special candle-lighting moment.

We welcome our special guest musician, Paul Winter! Seven-time Grammy winner Paul Winter has a body of work that chronicles his wide-ranging experiences in the musical traditions and natural environments of the Earth. The saxophonist, composer and bandleader founded Living Music as the recording context for his ensemble, the Paul Winter Consort, and his community of colleagues, which includes some of the world’s finest jazz, world, and classical musicians, along with notable voices from the great symphony of wildlife. We also welcome our special guest dancer, Sarah Campen! Sarah Campen is an Alaskan choreographer and facilitator. She makes dances, audio stories, interactive installations, and community-engaged civic arts pieces. She is also a teaching artist. Learn more at http://www.scampen.com/
