Yesterday the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals ruled to deny water quality permits that are required to construct Williams Transco’s thrice denied Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) dirty gas pipeline—pausing the expensive and unnecessary project.
Waterspirit’s Executive Director, Blair Nelsen, responded:
“This decision is an important step toward protecting New Jersey's waters and communities from toxic pollution. We congratulate the judges on making the morally correct decision, and thank all of the organizations who made this happen for their determination and diligence. Water is sacred, and we need to act like it.”
Waterspirit has maintained for over a decade in this struggle that moral authority will prevail. This ruling is such affirmation. Under the guise of affordability by a NJ Governor must not lurk the same detrimental leadership which failed to protect air following the unsafe environment following the attacks on 9/11/01. Governor Sherrill’s fast tracking of radioactive nuclear waste and fracked gas infrastructure in NJ would be devastating to public health, especially during prolonged drought. Check out the video “What is NESE?” made by our summer intern, highlighting the opportunity for the current NJ Governor, Governor Sherrill, to do the right thing.
We the people continue to need leadership to support affordability honestly, in ways that do not threaten permanent contamination of clean air and pure water and prevent a livable future for generations to come. Call 609-292-6000 and urge Governor Sherrill to prevent costly, deadly pollution by preventing “NESE” today!
